Arnica has been used for centuries as a treatment for a variety of ailments. Today it is used primarily as a treatment for minor strains, bruises or muscular pain brought on by strenuous exercise. If ingested arnica can be toxic and so internal use is discouraged. Therefore arnica tea is an infusion which must never be drank under any circumstances. In addition use by pregnant women and nursing mothers should be avoided. Clearly, due to the possibility of harm the homeopathic and external use of the plant has taken precedence.

Making and using Arnica Tea
The Arnica plant grows between 300 cm to 600cm tall and has oval shaped yellow leaves. The tea is made with the flower of the arnica Montana flower. For each pint of tea infuse two heaped tea spoons of the dried flower for approximately 15 minutes.

The Alegro Foods Arnica Tea can then be brushed on the affected area, or it is soaked in a cloth which is then held over the affected area. The tea helps to:

  • Heal contusions (bruises) by stimulating white blood cells to assimilate confined tissue fluid and blood.
  • Soothe the pain caused my muscle sprain, it is an anti-inflammatory and relaxant
  • Sooth sore feet in a footbath
  • Create an aromatic environment and a complete body soak if added to a warm bath (add approximately 1 liter per bath)
  • Gently massage the hair follicles after washing hair to promote hair growth
  • Soothe chapped lips and insect bites and the itching caused by contact with poison ivy

Arnica in the form of a tea or any other homeopathic form of the herb is not known to cause significant side effects if used correctly and after discussing the nature of the malady. As with all medicines arnica contains active ingredients which may cause allergic or oversensitive reactions. It is not possible to overdose on arnica even if ingested and it is not known to interact with other prescribed drugs. Before using arnica as a tea or in any other form, consult your homeopath. The action of the herb is curtailed by caffeine, mint and camphor. In addition if any allergic reaction ensues, such as redness, itching or any kind of rash discontinue immediately. When using arnica err on the side of caution and if in doubt dilute.
