If you live in a region where you get to experience the four seasons, you can appreciate the exciting buzz that’s almost palpable on those first warm days of spring.  It gives you hope that summer is around the corner and the unforgiving snow might be gone for awhile.  That buzz has most people running to the nearest lawn and garden supply store to stock up on fun summer supplies.  As you grab the tiki torches and pool noodles, don’t forget to think about your pet. There are products from LED pet collars to cooling beds for your pet for summer!

1. Hydrate!  The dog days of summer are no joke.  When the temperature is spiking, everyone is heading for the shade.  Your dog feels the same way!  Not only is it important to seek shade, it is imperative to stay hydrated.  Be sure to always have a travel bowl or some means of water for your pooch.

2. Speaking of heat, the hot sun often pushes walks back to later in the evening when the sun is setting.  While this is great for the heat factor, it’s not so helpful for safety.  Walks at night pose more hazards than those taken during the daylight hours.  LED pet collars can help by allowing owners to have their hands free and be more alert to potential dangers.  Not only do LED pet collars light the way, it also makes you and your pet visible to traffic.

3. Especially for those of us who are not fortunate to have AC in the house, it might be a good idea to invest in a pet cooling mat.  Good for indoors or outdoors, this is a great idea to help keep pets cool.

4. Along the same line, but perfect for the active pet and owner, is a cooling dog vest.  The vest allows your dog to stay cool while on the move.

5. Don’t forget the sunscreen!  Yep, there is even sunscreen for your four-legged friend.  Ideal for those breeds with light or thin hair; dogs can get a sun burn too!
