Grapes

Due to the diversity of grapes, there are many styles of wines that come from Veneto. The best known is the Glera grape, which is used to make a sparkling wine called Prosecco.

The western portion of Veneto is traditionally planted with Garganega grapes which are used to make the popular white wine, Soave. Corvina Veronese grapes also are grown in the part of the region and are used in the red wine, Valpolicella.

In the central and eastern portions of Veneto, Merlot grapes have reigned as the most planted grape since the region was hit with phylloxera. Chardonnay and Pinot Bianco are also widely planted in this area.

Veneto is also home to the largest planting of Carmenère and Malbec grapes.

Vinitaly

Every April, Verona hosts the Vinitaly wine fair, which is an international wine and spirits exhibition. Vinitaly is one of the largest wine events in Italy. It is both a trade fair and a retail event. Vineyards from every country will display their best wines for spectators. The event is filled will restaurants and is a must-do event for wine-lovers.
