Unbeknownst to many individuals, their sleeping patterns can be greatly hindered by using the wrong pillows. Memory foam pillows are one of the best items to hit the market in a long time because they can help relieve chronic neck pain, as well as, allow people to receive the proper support during sleep. Pillows are very important to one’s spinal health, the main reasons being not only for comfort but for support as well. Think about the human body – the neck is responsible for supporting the head and is located on the top of the spine – when the body is misaligned, a great deal of unforeseen problems can be in the near future.

What Pillows Should Be Doing

Naturally, a humans’ neck has a curve to it that is supposed to be maintained at all times throughout the day. It is equally as important to support the natural curvature of the spine and neck even during sleep. If a pillow is too high, the neck will be forced to be abnormally high, in turn, causing neck stiffness and undue stress upon one’s shoulders. Another downfall to a pillow being too high is that it hinders one from being able to breathe properly because it starts to restrict their airways – which may lead to snoring. This all holds true for pillows that are too low as well but just in the opposite sense.

Comfort

Memory foam pillows, similar to the mattresses, will naturally conform to, and support one’s head and neck while they are sleeping. The visco-elastic that memory foam pillows are made of may feel heavy and stiff to the touch, but once pressure is applied – it will start to conform to anything that is placed upon it. Personal preference does change between people but this is exactly why they should invest in memory foam pillows. No matter what one’s personal preference is they cannot deny something that perfectly conforms to their specific needs.

Density

In comparison to other types of pillows, memory foam pillows are far denser. Feather filled and fiber filled pillows may be comfortable to begin with, but after a couple of times through the washer – they will lose their original feel and become extremely unsupportive. They are also not the best for those people who suffer from allergies, whereas, memory foam pillows are naturally resistant to allergens.

These are just a few of the reasons why memory foam pillows are superior to traditional pillows. Offering a cost effective solution to minimizing a stiff neck in the morning, there are many different styles of memory foam pillows to choose from.
