Anchors come in several different sizes, textures, and styles. So, how do you know if you are using the right one for your project and what you are trying to get done? Well, the answer is simple. Read this article! Not only will you learn about how to determine the right one, but also the uses for a few different styles.
How heavy is the Object you will be using the Anchor For?
The weight of an object really determines what size anchor you will need. If you will be using these anchors for smaller or lighter weight objects then you won’t need a very large diameter. Something like 3/16 or even 1/4 inch will work. For something of average weight and isn’t too heavy you should be fine using a 3/8, 1/2, or 5/8 inch if needed. However, for larger objects you need to consider larger and sturdier anchors, such as 3/4 inch or even full inch. Always keep this in mind when determining diameter.
What Environment Will it Be In?
Your environment will play a large factor in trying to figure out what type of material the anchors need to be made of. If they are going to be indoors, then a simple zinc anchor should do you just fine. Being outdoors zinc will rust most quickly. Instead, when working outdoors, you should use an aluminum anchor. If the object will be exposed to chemicals of any type, you will need a heavy metal that way you can stay protected against corrosion that chemicals can cause. A stainless steel anchor would be best if you are worried about corrosion.
Male or Female Version
The last step you will need to figure out is whether you need a male or female anchor. Males are a stud type anchor. They are inserted into a predrilled hole and no setting tools are required. Female anchors are designed so that a bolt can be screwed and unscrewed as needed. Females do require spotting and a setting tool is needed.
This is just a little bit about anchors and how to help you decide on what type of anchors you may need. If you have any more questions, contact an anchor supplier in your area. Not only can they help you choose the best anchor for the job, but they can also help you find a professional to help you with your job as well.
