Chiropractic Care Isn’t Just for Car Accidents Anymore

Most Americans only consider chiropractic care after a traumatic injury. Usually a car accident brings them to a chiropractor’s office, but they don’t realize that had they been in better spinal health from the start they might not have experienced such a detrimental injury in their accident.

Chiropractors began noticing in the early 1990s that individuals that presented with serious injuries from car accidents also reported having aches and pains before their accident. They discovered that individuals with healthy spines and joints were far more resilient to the stresses caused by car accidents. The fact is that several jobs require daily activity that causes stress and strain on the joints and spine. If you are in one of these occupations, an appointment with your chiropractor may be in order. If your job requires any of these physical activities, you should probably visit your chiropractor regularly.

Sitting at a Desk

This may seem counterintuitive, but an active job doesn’t necessarily lead to a greater need for chiropractic care than a sedentary one does. Studies have shown that sedentary jobs can actually increase your risk of many illnesses and imbalances. If you sit in front of a computer for several hours daily, your neck and spine may be at risk of injury. An individual with a stiff neck can experience whiplash that is more painful and longer lasting than a healthy individual would. Save yourself the pain and time now with regular therapy to reverse the sitting imbalance.

Standing for Hours at a Time

Individuals in the healthcare and service industries spend hours standing and walking in addition to lifting trays and dishes. These people often suffer from lower back problems, which may sound like a hazard of the trade but are perfectly treatable with spinal adjustment and chiropractic care. When you exaggerate an existing back injury in a car accident it can only worsen, making it much harder to get back on your feet for that twelve-hour shift.

Repetitive Motion

Factory workers know the pain of the repetitive motion. Using your arm to perform the same motion hundreds of times daily or bending and lifting objects multiple times can cause wear and tear even when performed safely and properly. The motion can cause inflammation and adhesions to muscle tissue. This can be a painful injury, but many self-medicate with NSAIDs instead of therapy because they don’t realize it is treatable with chiropractic care. Soft tissue damage can compound, meaning that an existing injury can be exacerbated in a car accident. The best defense would be to manage repetitive motion injury with a curative measure rather than painkillers.

A healthy body stands a better chance of walking out of an accident unharmed. This is why the chiropractorsat the Synergy Wellness Center should be helping you with your work-related issues well before that fender bender ever takes place.
