A big part of drilling for oil is the utilization of water to cool drill components and break up soil. This water is often siphoned off and removed from the drilling site to be treated elsewhere. However, if you want to save time and money and maybe even reuse the water onsite, you can request and pay for produced water treatment services on your oilfield.
The Produced Water Treatment Process
Water that is used and contaminated during the drilling process is funneled into a mini treatment facility constructed on your oilfield. There it is processed through the building and equipment and “purified” to be reused. The water is then placed in another holding tank for “clean” water where it can be siphoned off and used again.
It is also possible to hire trucks as a mobile water treatment option. These trucks carry equipment on the back that can effectively treat the produced water and bring or give it back to you.
Costs and Benefits
Costs are often less to treat produced water onsite because you are not paying to remove the wastewater nor are you paying a third party to treat the water. Reusing the produced water after it has been treated reduces production costs because you don’t have to constantly import water from elsewhere. (It should be noted that this treated water is not fit for human consumption, but it is safe for reusing in the daily drilling process.)
