Biblical Prophecies Fulfilled – The Facts You Should Know

The Bible has always attracted controversy. Whether you believe in it or not, there is clear evidence that it contains many biblical prophecies fulfilled exactly as foretold by God through his prophets. As the Lord said via his prophet in Amos 3:7, he does nothing without revealing it to the prophets. Let us consider some infallible prophecies that came to pass exactly as prophesied in scripture:

1. 70-year captivity long before it happened, Jeremiah had foreseen and warned Israel that she would be taken into captivity for 70 years (Jeremiah 25:12). Amazingly, this happened exactly as prophesied when King Nebuchadnezzar destroyed Jerusalem and took the surviving Jews captive. There is historical evidence that this happened in 586 BC, long after prophet Jeremiah was dead.

2. Isaiah Foretells the birth of Cyrus – In Isaiah 45, The prophet foretells the birth of King Cyrus. This prophecy was given in the 8th century BC but Cyrus was born in the 6th century BC, approximately two centuries after the prophecy had been given. Historical evidence suggests that Cyrus was the founder of the Persian kingdom which is exactly what Isaiah foretold in the prophecy.

3. The birth of Jesus – Even though few Jews believe that Jesus is the Messiah that was foretold by the prophets, most agree with the accuracy of the prophecies that foretold his birth. For instance, Micah 5:2 describes how God would rise a great “ruler” whose going forths are from “everlasting” from Bethlehem. Micah was clearly talking about the birth of Jesus. Joseph and his wife Mary lived very far away from Bethlehem and the odds of that happening were slim. The fact that they happened to be in the town when mary went into labour is an indicator that Micah’s prophecies was being fulfilled.

Even though we have looked at only 3 examples, the Bible is full of lots of Biblical prophecies fulfilled. For example, How would Isaiah know that the earth was spherical (Isaiah 40:22) long before Galileo discovered it centuries later? The only logical explanation is that the prophecies found in the Bible came from God.
