What is Perio Protect®?
Perio Protect® is a therapy used to prevent and treat gum disease. It is non-invasive and has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration.
The therapy works by preventing plaque from accumulating on the teeth or in pockets that extend beneath the gum line. The patient will use it at home to keep plaque under control between dental visits.
The dentist in Evanston will provide the patient with a set of custom-made trays. They will also prescribe a medication that will remove the biofilm from the patient’s teeth. The patient will put the medication in the trays and place them over their teeth. They will leave them there for a set time.
What is CEREC?
CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, and it is a technology used to make restorations like crowns. The patient can thus get their crown in one visit, rather than wait several weeks for a dental lab to fabricate it. Similarly, the dentist won’t have to take impressions or send them to the dental lab.
CEREC has CAD/CAM (Computer-Aided Design/Computer-Aided Manufacturing) technology that includes a milling machine, a camera, and a computer. The dentist will use the camera to take a picture of the patient’s tooth, and the computer will produce a 3D image. The dentist will use the computer to design the restoration. The milling machine will then carve the restoration out of high-quality ceramic, and the dentist will bond it to the patient’s tooth. The whole process takes roughly an hour.
