Everything you need to know about Snowmobile Trail Groomers

As soon as the trails are clearing of skiers and snowmobiles every night, you will hear the whine of a snowmobile trail groomer going up and down the trails making them safe and easy to travel for families the next morning. If you are an avid snowmobiler, then you know how important it is for the trails to be smooth and taken care of.

However, very few snowmobilers know very much about the snowmobile trail groomers that make their lives on the trails easier. Read on below for a brief summary of what you need to know.

What is Snowmobile Grooming Equipment?

This type of equipment is used to keep the trails prepped, smooth, and safe for everything from snowmobiles to skiers and even people who just love to walk in the snow. The term grooming comes from the fact that the equipment grooms the snow as it smooths it.

What exactly does a Groomer do?

Essentially, this type of equipment packs the snow firmly, creating a corduroy surface that is smooth and safe to ride on, no matter what your vehicle of choice is.

What are the Main Types of Groomers?

It is important to know that the same types of groomers aren’t used on ski slopes as are used on snowmobile trails. Below find the two main types of snowmobile trail grooming equipment.

• Single blade drags are older snowmobile groomers but still said to be effective. This type of equipment often has a rolling drum and does not have any type of side rails. While it still does the job, this type of equipment has been replaced mostly by multi drag blades instead.

• Multi drag blades are the modern snowmobile trail smoothing equipment used today. As the name suggests it consists of multiple blades. This device comes equipped with side rails, skegs, compactor pans, and a few other devices that help the groomer be super-efficient.

As you can see, snow grooming equipment is important for clubs and individuals alike. There are two basic types of equipment that can be used for smoothing out the trails for snowmobilers to use. The choice of which to use is up to you or the club that you are a part of. It is important to make sure that you stay out of the way of snow groomers as well, so they can do their jobs.
