Preparing For A Local Move

Although the move is only within the area, the process of preparing for the move and locating the best moving services can be just as daunting as if you were relocating to the other side of the country. The key to a successful move is preparation and research, by deciding what you can do and what you can’t and shopping for the best Chicago moving services you can rest assured that the move will go well and stress-free.

Preparation and planning:

Because it is a local move there are a few things that you can do that you might avoid if it was a long distance move; this includes determining how much of the work you will do and how much you will leave to the professional moving crew.

You are probably financing the move; an employer is usually not involved with paying for local moves; this being the case you can save a considerable amount of money if you decide to do your own packing. If you do decide to self-pack, there are a couple of things to bear in mind:

• Eliminate things you don’t need: People that have lived in the same home for some time have a natural tendency to keep things around even though they are no longer used. This is an ideal time to weed out your possessions, throw items out if they are of no value and donate to your favorite charity.
• Gather your supplies: If you decide to self-pack you will need plenty of boxes, you can usually get boxes from your local supermarket; if not there are plenty of other sources.

Hiring your moving company:

Packing is one thing, moving is something altogether different. When interviewing Chicago moving services find out about insurance options, ask for a “not to exceed the price,” find out how long they have been serving the community and get a reasonably accurate time table of the entire process; loading, transporting and unloading at your new home.
